Mandla Hlatshwayo, popularly known as DJ Mandla, has passed away. The Jozi FM DJ, compiler of Soul Candi’s Jozi Knights and former Generations actor was murdered last night in Soweto.
The legendary DJ Mandla, who worked at Soweto’s Jozi FM, passed away last night (14 May 2017). These unfortunate news were reported by the SABC this morning that he was shot dead in Soweto.
SAPS’ (South African Police Service) spokesperson, Captain Hilter Ngwenya, said two people were shot at a pub in Pimville on Sunday night, but could not divulge their names before next of kin were informed.
“It happened at 23:00. Four armed suspects entered the pub and robbed people there. The two victims who were shot were trying to assist the other people in the pub who were being robbed,” Captain Ngwenya said.
Later during the day, Jozi FM’s CEO, Mpho Mhlongo, confirmed on Twitter that DJ Mandla has passed away.
DJ Mandla released a compilation featuring Mzansi’s artists only in 2006 titled Jozi Knights. The album was dropped by Soul Candi and Sheer House. DJ Tokzen, DJ Mbuso, Black Coffee and DJ Mavusana were some of the producers on it.
