The way Gift Bembe, aka DJ Mgiftana, plays vinyl, you would swear he practises daily. His skill on turntables is sharp as ever. The set he played at Gmbos Records is proof enough.

DJ Mgiftana, ubhuti wase-Vutta (the brother from Daveyton), is a renowned DJ in South Africa. He was a radio jock at Y FM and released a compilation, Clash Of The Heavyweights – Round One, in 2003, under House Afrika.

He was playing at Gmbos Records, in Benoni. Every Friday the vinyl shop has sessions where DJ’s balahlela inamba (play good music) and showoff their mixing skills on wax.

When we got there, they said he had left. People began to share the stunts he did on previous sessions. One mentioned an occasion where he played a set using other DJ’s records and how good he was. While we were all ears, DJ Mgiftana walked in, the store lightened up and people cheered.

In his old fashion way, DJ Mgiftana got on and wabulala (rocked). Watch his live set below.
